What is ABA Therapy?

FIND ABA THERAPY SERVICES NEAR YOU

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the process of studying behavior to introduce appropriate behavioral interventions. In the simplest terms,  ABA Therapy services break down everyday processes and situations into small, easy-to-understand steps. Those steps are learned, repeated and reinforced until they become an unaided behavior.

ABA is a well-known and effective treatment for children with autism when done in a high quality and intensive manner. ABA services encompass a variety of evidence-based treatment methods to address all types of behaviors. It can be used to help individuals with autism spectrum disorder live a more fulfilling life.

At Connec-to-Talk, we use ABA Therapy to teach new skills, reduce socially inappropriate behaviors and increase positive desired behaviors. Examples of areas addressed in ABA sessions include social skills, play, language, academics, self-care, and self-direction. All of our facilities have modern, fully-equipped sensory-motor gyms.

Comprehensive vs. Focused ABA

Comprehensive ABA involves a broad approach to therapy that addresses a wide range of behaviors and skills across all environments (home, school, community, etc.). It is typically used for individuals with more complex needs or those who require more intensive support. Comprehensive ABA involves a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s strengths and weaknesses, the development of a personalized treatment plan, and ongoing data collection to track progress and make necessary adjustments. Comprehensive ABA therapy hours range from 20-40 hours weekly.

Focused ABA, on the other hand, targets a specific behavior or skill that the individual needs to learn or improve. It is typically used for individuals who require less intensive support or who have a specific goal they want to achieve. Focused ABA involves a targeted assessment of the behavior or skill in question, the development of a focused treatment plan, and ongoing data collection to track progress and make necessary adjustments. Focused ABA therapy hours require no less than 10 hours weekly of intervention.

What do ABA Sessions Include?

Communication Skills

Improving communication and language skills in children with autism is a common priority for parents. For many children diagnosed with ASD, communication deficits are the most pronounced symptom of autism.

Daily Living Skills

In an ABA therapy session, the therapist will help your child learn basic daily living skills. From skills such as brushing teeth, toileting, getting dressed, feeding and others we want to give your child the confidence they need to complete tasks independently.

Social Skills

Our behavior therapists use ABA Therapy to help children with ASD learn skills that encourage them to better integrate socially. From appropriate play to understanding what it means to reach a common goal, our ABA therapy services aim to help your child integrate better in a social setting.

Behavior Management

Behaviors can be disruptive, harmful, or otherwise inappropriate. Through our holistic ABA Therapy sessions, our expertly trained therapists will help minimize negative behaviors including self injurious behaviors, aggression, non-compliance and more.

ABA Therapy Services We Provide

Clinic-Based ABA

Clinic-based therapy allows our therapists to mimic many aspects of a regular school environment. This includes group activities, following routines, sharing and building relationships with peers, time away from parents, and staying focused in a noisy environment. We want to help your child live a more successful life by developing behavioral and social skills that will benefit them for future years to come.

In-Home ABA

Our in-home ABA therapy services provide support to children with autism that may be exhibiting challenging behaviors in the home or may have a hard time adapting in unfamiliar surroundings. It also provides parents an opportunity to receive more effective training to help minimize behaviors that are present in the home. Our in-home ABA therapists work under the supervision of a BCBA (board certified behavior analyst) to ensure your child’s ABA program is effective for their needs.

Community-Based ABA

Our community-based ABA therapy services focus on providing support to a child with autism in a school setting. The therapist helps with the day to day social interaction between peers and teachers. Additionally, the assigned ABA therapist helps address difficult behaviors within the classroom setting. Through our school support ABA, your child will gain independence and confidence to help make the school experience more fulfilling.
